The first two days of school have been picture perfect! We have had very few tears and so many smiling faces! The students are all getting along and seem really happy to be here! We are so excited to continue to get to know them (and you) all better as we move into our second week of school.
Typically some parents will see a little separation anxiety this week, as the student begins to acknowledge that coming to school is going to be a continual thing. Remember these little ones need encouragement and support. Be positive, identify that you know how they are feeling and assure them that you will be back to get them at the end of school. Make your good bye a quick one, and before you know it they will transition into this part of their daily life, easily enough.
The first two days of school we really tried to focus on getting to know each of our students and in helping them familiarize themselves with our staff, other students and the classroom around them. We introduced all of the students to work found in the Practical Life area and even gave some of the returning older children a chance to work with and teach the younger students. Some of the returning students were already drawn towards work in the Math and Sensorial areas, surprising both Shannon and I!
This week we will be introducing all of the students to work found in Sensorial, Math, Language and beginning Geography and Science. Our goal is to have every area of the classroom open so that we can really begin to get a clear idea of where each student is at in regards to their skill development and so forth. Individual Math, Language and Gross/Fine Motor skill assessments will begin this week for each of the students. This is a busy time for the teaching staff. It’s important for us to determine where your child is at in order for us to better be able to form an individual education plan that will work the best for them. It’s important for parents to remember that children are not cookies cut from the same mold, and that this is not an appropriate time to compare your child with any other child. We are here to work together to strengthen your children and to help them develop as a whole, independent child. If any of you have questions about anything, please let us know.
Other than that, enjoy the super cute pictures of your little ones found on the Picture Page of this blog! Their official First Day Photo with their “ant nametag” was done by our very talented Angelee with Onjalie B. Photography. More photos will be sure to be posted next week!
*Special Thank you to everyone for working together to make student pick up such a success and for helping your student arrive on time to school! We appreciate all that you parents do to!
Love to you all!
Annie~
Things We Need:
|
· Story time Volunteers Needed!
We are looking for parents who would like to come in on Monday and Wednesday the last 15 minutes of class and read a story to the children. This can be a onetime thing or you can do it as many times as you’d like. A sign up calendar will be at the front desk. This Month we would like books about animals found in the ocean, sea shells, etc. It can be a fantasy or fiction book. Just something that will be fun and engaging to the children. Books can be checked out from the library if needed. . .

· Currently we still have 2 (possibly 3) openings available in our afternoon class
If you know of anyone please send them over. The sooner we can fill those spots the better! It’s always nice to have all the students start at the same time
